Best of luck @Journeyman.  It's a big op, but with rest and gentle rehab you'll be back out on the bike before too long. I've been swapping messages with Ken (the Op) about what we've been up to recently, as we had the surgery within a few weeks of each other late last year.  Early on we were swapping tips about pain management and catheter supplies! These days we talk more about riding bikes, photography, his Oakleys fetish! and what we are up to in the spring sunshine rather than anything surgery or cancer related.  It's not all completely plain sailing, but outcomes are good and life goes on. I really do feel as if a massive weight has been lifted off me since the op and I am very grateful for the NHS, my surgeon and his davinci robot!  Stay positive, ask away if anything is on your mind or you just want to talk. It'll be reyt 👍

Cheers, @blokeuptheroad! Good points - rehab will mean pushing hard but not too hard...
Not going there with the Oakley fetish (ended up with both Holbrook and Ojector - whoops).

Anyone else facing major surgery might be interested this article: ACS Exercise and Nutrition Before Surgery.

Need to do something practical... maybe this means you should eat well and ride your bike a lot?!

Interesting article, but with unsurprising findings! I've mixed experience of this. Prior to my prostatectomy in November last year I was actually in pretty poor shape. Mostly because for nearly 3 months prior to it I had the most persistent and horrible chest infection ever, that would not shift. Fortunately it just tailed off before my pre-op or it would have stopped my treatment. I definitely felt that slowed my early recovery quite a bit.

About 3 years ago I had  ACL reconstruction surgery. I spent a lot of time in the gym on prehab and it definitely helped me recover more quickly.

So the study findings seem common sense and intuitive to me.

Do you have a date for your op yet @Journeyman? The other prehab you need to be on top of, is PFEs, but you know this as I'm always banging on about it!

Cheers, @blokeuptheroad ! I had a chest infection in March/ April and was frightened that would put things back, but that's settled and it shouldn't delay surgery - the date now is in the 2nd week of June. That's starting to feel pretty close! With any luck the weather will be good for rehab.

I'm more in touch with my pelvic floor than I've ever been, even watching an ultrasound scan to make sure I'm contacting the right muscles. That's not something I expected to find myself doing!
