It looks as if our little bike touring holiday in Brittany has suffered a little mission creep-now including a train ride to Paris and a week near Montpellier.

Is there any good riding down there? If I take the (admittedly chunky) Charge Plug will I regret but taking something with fatter tyres ?

Any pointers gratefully received. Cheers Joe

Lots of info here (and in the older threads linked inside this one) http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/mtbing-in-montpellier-and-french-race-calendar-help-sil-vous-plait

Short answer is yes.. in fact a gravel bike would let you ride a lot of the singletrack and a huge amount of quiet fireroads that I seem to spend a lot of time on to link up some of the more interesting bits.

Edit : especially have a look at the "Grande Traversee de l'Hérault" or GT34. It's a long distance walking/horse/mountain bike route that uses mostly fireroad or larger tracks. Some rocky bits but certainly for the part around Montpellier I should think that a gravel bike would be nearly perfect. Some photos http://gt34nord-vtt-2013.over-blog.com/le-projet
