Hi going for a week at Center Parcs in Penrith in May and will be planning on escaping from the missus and the kids for a day, so can anyone recommend any good riding close-ish to the park.

Clareymorris is your lady from Penrith, but she's probably out riding atm.

Bump this up later. 8)

the world is your oyster.....well nearly.

Ullswater within 10 mins drive, keswick in 30 mins. What sort of riding do you fancy ?

plenty of rocky techy stuff and easier bridleways too. we can tailor a route to your requirements if you only have a day.

As rolymo says,The main area to ride nearest to Whinfell (cp) is Askham fell,Moordivock area,Any of the Bridleways are pretty good on here,my favourite is the one dropping towards Howtown and then up to martindale church, returning along the road to pooley bridge,Eamont Bridge.

If your riding from the park i would avoid the a66,its a very busy road with no cyclelane,I think there is a back route out of the park onto the Cliburn-A6 Eamont Bridge road, from here use the Lowther caravan park road from EB,follow this route south, towards Lowther castle, turning right to Askham village heading straight up the village road climb onto the Bridleway to moor divock.

I am Clarey Morrises riding partener, she has an expert knowledge of this area and as Foxychick says will post a response here i am sure. ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great holiday!

cheers for the ideas, will be hoping to keep the start within riding distance as dont want to get the car out as too much faf, have been to the park before minus bike and there is a back way out near the stables, any idea?

As for riding i'm not totally decided on which bike to take, was going to take the s/speed but after finishing the 456 summer season i am starting to lean more towards taking that. however if its not to much trouble i would appreciate some ideas for both ie something not to full on for the ss as its fully rigid and something more fun/technical for the 456 which tbh is most likely to be the bike i drag along.

Also only looking for something about 4 hours tops if poss otherwise i will be sleeping with the squirals when i get back!

Hi RDL. I think you may be fairy limited with riding from yhe centerparcs doorstep (IMO obviously). Get that car out and come and see us for some fun. We are only 10 minutes drive away......You won't regret it ๐Ÿ˜€

rdl

fbb's route is the one and could be done on either bike, not too techy although very rocky in places. given your timescale and the fact that you want to ride from your door the martindale church addition may push you on time, but the drop to howtown is a defo.

e-mail me at williamsroly AT googlemail DOT com for detailed directions.

obviously CM's idea is better, it does open things up a bit better. a few of us near penrith have flexible work/shifts and would be glad to guide you around/offer a list if possible.

following cm is always a pleasure.

Is that because when you are behind me you can't hear me asking for cake, or screaming, or singing, or laughing?

"i'm not totally decided on which bike to take"

The majority of it would suit a singlespeed (long steady climbs) or Hardtail (only one rocky decent)It can be a bit muddy though so prepare to get a bit wet.

"Is that because when you are behind me you can't hear me asking for cake, or screaming, or singing, or laughing?"

There was this lass called Clarey whose riding was sometimes quite Scary! Off she would go, come rain, sleet, or snow, the girl was clearly no fairy!
Some would say, there's really no way, that girl can do what she does, big climbs never phase her, or an epic to wear her, there's nowt she really cant do.
Just don't give her choccy, Or offer her Toffee cos there will be nowt left by the time you get home,Just keep her int pub with plenty of grub, that's something I know, and er... mr Rolymo!
The point of this thread, is to warn all, instead of "where to go riding",Just don't stop this lass when she's on a big pass cos me and Roly will be behind her "hiding"! ๐Ÿ˜†

sorry had a few beers, couldn't resist it!

lol
