I recently moved to the city centre of Edinburgh and don't have access to a car, or know of any places to ride locally. does anyone have suggestions of routes and trails that I could get to easily on the bike?
I understand there is a bus service to glen tress and will check that out within the next few weeks.

The Pentland Hills are full of shared-use "XC" trails and are easily accessible from town (the Water of Leith is a good through route).
I mapped some of them using Google Earth.

You can even ride off-road all the way to Glentress and back if you are so inclined.

There are other, smaller, trails on Corstorphine Hill, Blackford Hill, the Braids etc. Just head up and search around.
Carl at Bikebus Glentress is a top bloke. Never actually used the service mind!
If it ever stops ****ing raining I'm planning to get out in the pentlands more... But maybe not next week.
You can get the train out to East Lothian and there are lots of riders out there, have a look on Facebook for MTB East Lothian. There are trails to the south of the Pentlands in Midlothian, have a look from the Flotterstone Inn heading towards Penicuik and Roslin. Most of the woods in Midlothian have trails in them.

Anyone riding Midlothian/East Lothain tomorrow on a slightly-overgeared-CX-bike friendly route?
I'm keen to get out and explore but all I know is the nice looking singletrack which is possibly the John Muir trail as you head towards Aberlady...
Much of the major Pentlands routes can be done on a cx.
If it is just East Lothian you are after, get in touch with Coastkid/Coastrider (google will direct you) for advice. There is also An East Loth Facebook group
Sod the bromance - Menmuir does a very good line in bramble whisky.
Which I will mostly be drinking indoors this next year as my other half is starting teacher training on Monday, which makes me chief cook and bottle washer for the weans.
