[#12718525]

One of my daughters has just bought a house with her partner in Chorley.

From their back windows you have a great view of Winter Hill mast. As im going to be a regular visitor to help wuth diy jobs and some riding, where's good to ride, and what bikes should i take? We have road, gravel and mtb available to us.

Anyone got any recommendation?

Thanks

Ian

Loads mate. Loads. Used to live in Horwich and it was my local patch. Find me on strava and scroll back if you want.

Mtb was better there than where I am now.

Mnpr = Monday night pub ride. Just in case you didn’t have the forum’s version of a dictionary for random acronyms.

There's nice road and mtb riding to be had. Next time you are in the area pm me, bring an OS map and highlighter.......(or check @duncancallum strava)  Happy to show you around.

I live in Chorley and it's great for riding. You have Healy Nab which will then lead you on to riding around RIvington etc.I've also riden off road to Gisburn forest once (that's a big day out). Even when I lived without a car, I had access to the lake district and peak district riding by using the train.

For gravel, you can use the canal to get some massive distance in. Road riding you can easily get to Bowland, riding out on the flat lanes towards Southport, or heading into the Pennines.

As above, there's good riding for all three.

Rivington's the main spot for MTB. Mixture of BWs and off-piste. We even have some nice corners these days.

As all have said there's loads of riding round here.

For MTB there's Rivington, Healey Nab, Darwen Tower and moors, Tockholes woods, Great Hill and White Coppice.

San Marino downhill is a nice end to a ride and you can call in at Lotties cafe for a sandwich/cake and coffee.

What do you recommend doing on the MTB around Darwen tower/ tockholes way @flyingpotatoes ? We've got a job over that way so might be able to get a ride or two in at some point.

A lot of the trails in the woods are difficult to find without going with someone who knows the area. I'll try and post a map if I can.

Haa I forgot about that route I wrote it!

It's all legal but not the greatest trails but will give you a good view of the area
