Can anyone recommend a route for a 1.5-2 hour road ride leaving from the velodrome? Ideally avoiding all if the ring roads.
I don't know the area at all and always have time to kill when the kids are riding there.
You could head off towards Magor lots of little lanes Goldcliff, Nash Road. Usual precautions to take. Its flat and could be very windy. Then just explore a bit. If you take the mountain bike then head up to Wentwood some great stuff up there.
Ah yes, done the Wentwood 50, some great trails around there.
Head out the back of Celtic Manor, pick up the road from Catsash to Llantrisant, carry on to Usk, then over the high ground near llandegveth reservoir to Cwmbran, return via Caerleon. Or if that's a bit long, cross the river at Newbridge on Usk for a shorter return leg to Caerleon.
Made it out to Magor after several wrong turns (including arriving at the gates of the power station!!).
Good ride but it was pancake flat, I may try heading up to th Usk route suggested next Saturday.
The lack of traffic was refreshing.
