[Closed] Ride to work route advice - Manchester Airport

I've just got a new job on Styal Rd near the airport and would appreciate some route advice from anyone who rides around this area.

The plan is to ride from Sale, up to Sale water park and then along the mersey bank in the direction of stockport, the question is, where to come off and head down to the airport area? There is a suggested route on the OS map, but this goes through the middle of Wythenshawe. Is that going to be a bit dodgy? Would I be better off coming off at northenden or gatley and then from there, maybe straight down styal road?

This is roughly 10 miles, which is just about right in terms of distance and hence not a more direct route.

cheers in advance

PL

Styal road is quite narrow, twisty and tight at the Gatley end, so often used as a rat race cut through to avoid the A34 (Heald Green) turning to the airport.
Mmm I would avoid Wythenshaw.

Edit; You could get through Gatley village turning right onto Springfield rd, which leads onto St Anns Rd North,(Heald Green) turn right onto Brown lane, which eventually takes you to the top end (wider bit) of Styal road and from there to Ringway road. Phew, need a drink now 🙂

Not sure what times you'll be commuting and traffic levels but there is the option of leaving Sale and head to West Timperley, then to Timperley and onto Thorley Lane, Clay Lane a couple others and back onto Thorley Lane, Left at the end and follow to Styal Road.

The BIL commutes to Sale from Handforth most days, he goes through Heald Green, right to Gatley and then to Northenden, Brooklands and finally Sale. He's not the fittest and takes him about 30 mins each way and in the summer does the first route now and again to get in a few extra miles.

Follow the brown dots from Brooklands roundabout, back roads and cycleway around airport...clockwise or anti-clockwise (option of some bridleways near Styal).

You could come at it from the other end - through Bruntwood park, Stanley Green, Handforth and Deandale farm. This gives you far mroe singletrack than Brooke drive - or are you planning to do it on a road / CX bike?

The "airport route" from jackson's boat went out along the mersey, through CHeadle to Bruntwood thewn as above, then up Brooklands and Brooks; drive as above. The bit from the aiport back to Sale was boring.

Sale Water Park?

You run the risk of being bum raped by an ex-merchant seaman dressed as Anne Widdecome's dog.

Sex case area.

I've ridden through Wythenshaw on the way to the airport from Chorlton several times. Never had a problem.

Well, saying that there was that time a group of 12 year olds through M&Ms at me as I passed. Think they mistook the green ones for vegatables and decided to hurl them...
