Just seen this

Looks like a great event. Bit pricey though at over a grand. I was thinking of doing a riding holiday next year and this might be the ticket.

It's copied from the race across America, but no I agree, the reason I originally came across it was because I thought it was going to be a one day coast to coast sportive.

I've entered ,just need to get rather a lot of miles in now over the next few months .
I'm happy riding 110 miles in one day ,it's just the other 8 consective days that worries me !

I am doing JOG-LE with a couple of mates, but not paying £1000 for the privilege!

A couple of folk from here are going to start a couple of days after them, pass them enroute and pass them on the way back..

Reception to the launch wasn't all that positive here:

My particular favourite post was:

“We wanted to create a cycling event that would give everybody the opportunity to challenge themselves to get outdoors and achieve something new and exciting in a supportive environment."

Well everyone with 1100 quid!
Surely the fact that this is sponsored by Deloitte means that it's going to be some corporate focussed ****erthon for out of work bankers to make new business contacts whilst wobbling from one end of the country to the other demonstrating that there TEAM players or whatever type of whoring is required to get another rung up the corporate ladder.

Or am I getting cynical now that youth has left me

I'll be 59 next year and up until the last 3 weeks probably haven't ridden more than 20 odd miles, in total,in the last 8 years, but I have signed up for the RAB challenge. I'm not worried about the £1100. I don't smoke, drink only occasionally and we haven't had a holiday this year. The cost of the challenge to me is worth every penny as all the organisation will be taken completely out of my hands plus I'll be able to ride without the extra burden of panniers.
In the last 3 weeks I've done 42, 52 and 31 mile rides and can already feel myself getting fitter. At present I'm 5'10" and about 13.5 stone.I've just got myself a Specialized Secteur Elite through a Cycle to Work scheme and I'm already loving the bike.I don't know whether I'll be able to manage 1008 miles in 9 days, but I'm going to have a bloody good go!!
I for one am not interested in business contacts as the reason for riding. I'm doing it for me, my family and my chosen charity!! And I can't wait!

That's on the roads isn't it?
I'd rather eat my own head.

Stu (and, more properly, IanMunro) - that's the best thing I've read for a while. So completely sums up what i think about my workplace....

As for RAB - I have nothing valuable to add on the matter other than: WTF is it about people not being able to do something challenging without their backsides being wiped for them?

1100 quid is a bit of a joke. If I was doing this I'd want the extra satisfaction of doing it WITH all my stuff in panniers too I think.
