Building a bike for Katie that's got what I'm assuming are XT I-spec single clamp shifter/brakes (with front mech so shifters both sides). Trying to work out where to fit the reverb lever.
I've always fitted right hand levers under the bar on the left before but it's way to far inboard with the XT kit.
Are there any tips (or problem solvers) to make it all ok?
I have done exactly what you have described but find it perfectly OK in use. But then I do have big hands/long fingers
I had this too, I ended up mounting the reverb lever where I wanted it and moved the shifter out (not i spec). As a pal pointed out you'll use the reverb alot more than the front shifter. So far not a problem.
Think I have the exact same issue coming up but with deore. My reverb hasn't arrived yet - was hoping if I slid the shifter to the extreme side I would be able to squeeze the rever remote in. Assuming now that this isn't going to work...
I go with left hand lever under the bar on the right. The reverb is a bit far away with i spec shifters but is still OK with a bit of a hand shift.
^^^ same here
Had same issue with the GF - just couldn't get a good position with her M785 brake levers - in the end, I got her one of those Novyparts triggers and solved issue perfectly (but expensive solution).
On my 2x11 XT Soul I just ended up mounting the Reverb trigger above the bar, between the grip and the lever. People will tell you that you'll snap it off like that, but it ends up angled downwards if you have your levers set up properly, and it's sort of sheltered in amongst the other controls, so it's not particularly exposed. Mine has been like that for three years of crashing, dropping and ham-fisted packing into teeny-tiny cars, and it's still going strong.
[Edit: this is the best pic I can find at the moment to show what I mean.]

I have reverbs on 2 bikes one with ispec shifters one without and it works much better on the non I-spec bike. I run it under the bar between the brake and shifter on the left.
On the I-spec bike it does sit a fair distance away from its ideal position, its not too bad but not perfect! With a bit of wiggling you can get the reverb remote into an OK position, but its not perfect, or even pretty good. Just managable!
The bike was supplied with a right hand reverb lever. I normally mount those under the bar on the left but this time, after trying every possible combination, I've ended up putting it where it's meant to be - over the bar, on the right, inside the XT brakes and pushed as far into the V between the brake body and the bar as it will go.
Looks like it will get trashed if the bike is turned upside down but fairly protected otherwise.
I've got two bikes with XT and Saint bar mounted shifters (1x10) and XT M785 brakes.
I've tried many combinations of both right and left handed reverb remotes and the best combination for me is right hand remote, mounted on the right (over the bar), between grip and brake. [edit] like mintimperial's pic but on the opposite side [/edit]
Shifter is mounted furthest inboard.
Top-Tip = you can swap the right and left hand shifter mounting brackets over if you have both shifters, so the mount sits inboard of the brake but pushes the actual shifter body further outboard, below the brake.
