just got some 2010 revs. The manual is complete faarrkking useless - nothing on set up at all. Can't find a set up guide on the website either
pos and neg air pressures okay to set up from guide on fork leg. Rebound and compression damping i can work out okay.
But how does the gate thingumy work? I assume it is some sort of anti-bob platform jobbie. Is it independent of the compression adjust ie if the compression is fully on and the fork locked out, presumably it does nothing? but if in mid setting on compression, the more you wind on, the more it will take to get the fork moving?
or something like that?
thanks!
Aye, something like that!
Assuming (always dangerous, I know...) it's the same sort of set up as on my 2006 Revs, the Gate controls the amount of input force required to overcome the compression damping when it's on full (i.e. the fork's effectively locked) and allow the fork to move.
Wound fully clockwise (on mine, that's just over 4 revolutions), it takes a big bump, while if it's only wound a couple of turns, it only takes a medium bump. And yes, this means it can be set to resist rider-induced bob, but then your forks will work normally if you hit a suitably sized bump in the trail.
Edited to add: Don't think it does anything at all when the compression damping is only "on" part-way, also the manual I've got says that you should set compression damping to "Lock" before adjusting the Gate.
HTH
oh okay - that makes sense.........
so once it has "blown off" (unfortunate turn of phrase) does it re-lock, or if not how do you re-lock it? Presumably turn compression damping knob off and back on again
thanks
Basically what tony_m said. I have Pikes rather than Revs, but work the same.
The two are kind of independent. The flood gate simply sets the pressure at which it bypasses the compression setting and allows the fork to move to stop seals blowing on a big hit. Personally never bother with either as the fork works perfectly without.
The pressure guide for the +ve and -ve chambers is notoriously high. My all up weight with Camelback is 82-83 Kg and find that 125 +ve 130 -ve is about right. Set it properly by putting a tie on the fork and getting 20-25% sag
Hmm, the manual doesn't actually say, but I'd always assumed (again... ๐ ) that as long as the compression damping was set to "Lock", it would just re-lock until another bump made it blow-off again.
Agreed
