Recently got these cheap, hardly used from a friend who's sadly given up riding. They're at 140mm and I'd like to reduce them to 100mm. Possible?

Yes.
I had some 29er Dual Air RCT3 that I ran with extra spacers at 100mm for a fair time until I bought some SIDs.
No problems, worked like any other 100mm fork.
Manufacturers guidelines suggest reduction to 120mm minimum but I had no issues.
