2016 revelation solo air. Damper side doesn't compress all the way. I know it's not the air spring side preventing it as I had the lowers off and was unable to compress the shaft on the damper side by hand. So when the forks are assembled (with no air) using all my meagre might they will not compress fully, leaving approx 20mm (might be more) of stanchion showing.

So, what's wrong with it and can I fix it? I've changed an air spring assembly before but never worked on the damper side.

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Too much oil in the damper. Common issue and very sensitive to oil level. 5ml - 10ml too much by the sounds of it. Unscrew the damping cap and remove a small bit of oil. If you don't have a syringe or anything... Use a tissue to absorb the oil. Won't take much to get the full travel of the damper rod back.

Have you confirmed you have lost travel? Have you dumped the air and cycled the forks with stanchion travel o ring marker and measured to see if this is correct. The damping rod on my revs hit an internal bumper before the air rod so worth just checking you actually have a problem first.

Thanks Don. Yes, as above I've tried to compress fully with all air released and with the lowers removed. I'm sure the forks didn't have the issue when I first bought the bike and I've never touched the damper side so I'm not sure how they could have too much oil.

I'll have another look at it later to check exactly how much travel is unused.

Yeah  check travel... Lowers on... Tiny bit of air just to equalise the pos / negative chambers. Something like 20psi or so. Big bounce with all the compression damping turned off. Measure o ring travel.

I always had about 30mm of stanchion left on mine at full travel (150mm) to the o ring.

As I said, with lowers removed I found the damping rod would not push into the leg as far as the air side. This is I think what you are explaining.

Worth undoing the damper cap and checking the state of the fluid. Also you could try pushing rod again and see if it frees up (with oil cap removed)

When I had Revelations, to use the full 150mm of travel the little red o ring basically touched the crown at full travel. Maybe there’s a difference in the years of Revelations. Mine came on a 2015 Boardman Pro Fs (I extended them from 130mm to 150mm travel with a new airshaft).

The big internal change in Revs before the new new units was when they went airshaft instead of spacers to adjust travel.

Unscrew the damper, push down the forks until almost full travel and retighten the damper. should do the trick
