I have just bought a old Kona on eBay, to use a commuter/pub hack. It's a 1999 rigid Kona and I was expecting it to be pretty worn out but in fact it in almost mint condition. It can't have been used more than a few times since it was bought new! Anyway the dilemma is, should I just ride it or does it deserve to be preserved in near new condition?

Is 1999 retro now? Mine is from 93/4 and I still don't think of it as that old!

Been there.

Bought a '98 Lava dome in Aubergine for £80 as a cheapy for a Kerala touring holiday. Collected it and it was mint even had the original kona tyres so put it in the loft. 18 months later remembered it and pulled it down. Late for a night out rode it to the station. Locked it. Gone when I got back. 🙁

Ride it. Look after it. Enjoy it.

Wrap it up and put it in your attic. Pull it out and sell it in 30 years. 🙂

I've just paid an eye watering price for a well used 80 year old bike. In 30 years there's bound to be more fools like me around.
