Ok.. I've decided to go for a long travel hard tail for winter use. However; as I've owned exclusively "weird shaped whytes" for the last 10 years or so I've no idea what fork I should go for.

For reference; my last conventional forked bike had Marzocchi Z1 Drop Offs in tasteful green (2001 model) - I'd like something along those lines - ideally low/zero maintenance and I always liked the suppleness of a good coil sprung fork. I suspect that the damping they had was rubbish compared to more recent forks but looking back through my rose tinted retro vision; I'm tempted to hunt out an old pair in good condition and stick to what I know.

So - any advice ? Are those era forks rubbish by modern standards and if so; what would be a 'similar' modern fork ?

See if you can find some 2006ish Marzocchi Bomber 66's I have a pair on my 456 and they are superb. Plush, and only need the oil changing once a year.

Also .. anyone have any going spare ? ๐Ÿ™‚

I used to have marzocchi mx comps and then mx pros. A good fork that does what it should, easy to service once in a blue moon and reliable. Anything from 1998 to 2006 is the good stuff, avoid 2007 to 2010. Mx pros are available at 120mm. I have a pair on hold for someone

Some MX Comps will go to 120mm also. I stupidly sold a lovely set for peanuts last year.
