If I want to get rid of all my Strava times and start again do I have to deactivate my account and create a new one or is there a reset option somewhere.

Just create a new account, no need to deactivate the other one.
it says on the website that deactivation can't be reversed. I would guess that if you want to get rid of all your leaderboard times your only option is to delete all your data (not sure if this is possible without deactivating the account). Is this what you want to do?
I guess so. It is 18 months since I snapped my foot off so I am starting from a lot lower level than all my recorded times.
I wouldn't mind the occasional PB to remind me that I am improving.
