Hi,

I found an old thread here with the same problem that I have.

https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/cant-get-cable-routed-internally-on-planet-x-rt58-road-bike/

Solutions:

A) Route on the outside of the frame. I have done this for now - but its scruffy - so keen to get back to internal routing

B) di2 or etap. I'm not doing this. That'd be like putting Ferrari wheels on a Lada

C) Remove and replace the original inner routing tube. This!

I am looking for help with option C!

So... the internal routing tube has died on my PX RT58. I've tried to pull it out from the BB but its fitted really tight (no idea how it was fitted originally?).

As suggested on the old thread - I'm considering drilling out the old routing and replacing with an outer cable - but I'm not sure exactly what to be drilling or whether anyone had ever done this successfully? Naturally, I'm a bit cautious to drill near carbon!

The Planet X RT58 has a strange internal routing system. There is an internal metal tube to route the cable all the way from the front of the top tube, all the way to the chainstay and out to the rear derailleur.

The metal tubing goes ABOVE the bottom bracket section in one single tubing. So the routing does not (and cannot) leave the frame under the BB and then go back in again.

Also - Park Tool routing kits are no use because: a) the original tubing blocks the frame entry/exit points, b) the holes are not big enough to get the magnet end of the cable in.

I did manage to:

1. Get a cable through the original metal tubing from the front to the BB

2. Get a sheath to run alongside the original tube from the rear to the BB

3. Thread the cable all the way BUT going through rather than over the BB (above the BB tube).

Alas - shifting sucked. Presumably not a clear passage / not tight enough when going through the BB.

Hence - interested for help with the drilling option!

Thanks
Nick
