So I'm sitting in front of the computer at work doing a bit of online window shopping whilst waiting for my PCR to finish, and my thoughts are drifting to warm spring afternoons, pootling along the country lanes on the tandem with Mrs B.
We picked the bike up at the end of last summer, it's a circa 1976-77 Pashley Tourmaster Tandem in near pristine condition, but with one slight flaw. The front end is so short that my knees and the handlebar come into contact when trying to turn!

Simple remedy though, just buy a new 1 inch quill with a longer stem, (the current one is direct mounted, with no reach), so I'm figuring around 100-120mm should do the trick.
The thing is though, what diameter is the handlebar? Would they have been a standard size back then and is it still standard now? I can't find any info on Pashley's website. Anyone with any ideas, other than go home and try and measure it with a bit of string!

Likely to be 25.4 as a British bike (some road bikes were 26mm but more likely European brands).
If I were you I'd look on eBay or Rose bikes for a steam and bar set up. You can get lots of 1 inch stems and groovy sit up and beg bars for not much money.
Anything at SJS?
Expensive though. ๐
Thanks folks, I want to keep the original bar etc. and just replace the quill stem, but now I've got a better idea of what I'm looking for.
Cheers!

I got one from there last year for my Breezer cruiser
Or you could go the slightly uglier quill coverter route like I have on my other Breezer then use some stem you have laying around https://www.velovitality.co.uk/collections/stems/products/velo-orange-threadless-stem-adapter (that is sold out but you get my point...)
