My boy's small framed old O5 has a leaking shock, RP23. Just wondering if a cheap modern (imperial E2E?) replacement is a better investment than service/rebuild at £100-£150?
Any recommendations?
It's hard to directly compare, but I don't feel modern inline air shocks are particularly better than how I remember the RP23 (very good in it's time).
The exception being the Cane Creek air inline, which may not be what you meant by "cheap" - though it is very reasonable compared to (for example) the Fox DPX2.
You might get lucky and find a shock but doubt it being cheap.
A quick look on crc there is nothing south of £350. I would get the shock serviced personally.
Having owned a few Oranges with both air and coil, I’d say wait for a coil to pop up on the bay, they just ride nicer I reckon. There’s nothing much there now but normally there’s a bit of choice. 190x50 is 7 1/2 inch by 2 inch stroke I think.
If you decide to get it serviced, i'd recommend getting it tuned at the same time, mine were always incredibly harsh until I had a lot of the high speed compression damping knocked off, the difference was night and day, feeling very similar to my current Float X.
