The BB is making "I'm knackered" noises so I want to replace it. Whoopee, another new standard I don't have tools for.
I went into the shop I bought it from and they tell me they don't know what part I need (I made it clear I intend to buy from them and get them to fit it) and I will need to take the bike in so they can look at it and then probably order the part in. Is it really this difficult to find out what's needed?
They seem to have one option on their [url= http://www.evanscycles.com/products/trek/bb90-95-shimano-kit-ec029724 ]website[/url] but I'm up for an upgrade if someone like Hope makes something that will fit. Unfortunately it seems far more complicated than just picking the "standard" and choosing a pricepoint 😕

No. They're lazy. If they ring Trek, their tech department will tell them exactly what's needed and probably have it in stock too. Find a new LBS is my suggestion.
Replacing it is an easy DIY job if you've got some mechanical blood in you 🙂
The one you link to is correct. Bb90 is with the sleeve & spacers, bb95 is just the bearings.
Had the same problem with leisure lakes even though I told them I was certain the one they were trying to sell me was wrong.
I think the mechanic had the hump because he was trying to go home and someone made him talk to a customer. To be fair, every other time I've been in they've been very helpful.
I might well end up doing it myself. It would be the first time I've not fitted a BB myself. How easy is it to get the old bearings out? I'm nervous about hammer tactics near a carbon frame. my homemade headset press can be called into action if bearings need to be pressed in
Common bearing size if running shimano cranks, match them at a bearing factor
The bearing is the same as what is used in replacing shimano hollow tech 2 bearings from enduro

How easy is it to get the old bearings out?
Easy. Knock out with a screwdriver and hammer or buy [url= http://www.parktool.com/product/pressfit-bottom-bracket-bearing-tool-set-BBT-90-3 ]PARK TOOL BBT 90.3[/url] which also has the adaptors to press the bearings in nicely with a headset press.
@PeterPoddy - thanks for the encouragement. Sounds like if I can fit headsets (I've done a few) then I'm good here.
Now to see about bearing replacement. I may be off down Attercliffe tomorrow. The instructions for the bearing shop run something like "turn left at the massage parlour, then left again after the pub with no windows and if you reach the strip club turn back..." 😯
