[Closed] replaced bearings - two feel "notchy"

[#1399436]

I replaced the four bearings in my Spicy's rocker (the frame to shock bit) as they were feeling a bit rough.
Bearings appear to be the right size etc. Two of them when installed free perfectly freely, two others feel what i can only describe as notchy. I pushed them out, checked them and they were perfect, reinstalled them, still feel notchy.
Any ideas?
Should I just run them and see if they bed in or will than knacker them immediately?

hmmm, i was going to say they might not be quite square.

When you pressed them were you carefull to only put pressure on the outer race otherwise you may have deformed the balls pushing them in.

Tend to agree with thisisnotaspoon you may have clipped the inner race as you pressed them in deforming the balls bearings

Pop-off the bearing seal with a sharp knife and see if there are any marks

You won't see the marks unless you wash all the lube out etc and make a very close inspection. PErsonally I'd say that if there's only a slight notch and its not very tight, just re-assemble and use until play develops. If they're in straight and you've dinged the race pressing it in then there's nothing you can do now, but a tiny amount of added friction will be un-noticable with the sort of moments involved with a rocker. If there is play it's another matter of course.

When I pop them back out they spin perfectly freely, put them back in and they start being notchy.
Pretty certain races aren't buggered, sounds like they aren't going in square then?

When it's all together give the ends of the axle a firm (really firm) tap with a mallet (i.e. don't belt the crap out of it with a claw hammer) and check again.
