About 8 years ago I put an external FSA crankset, V Drive I think, on my bike. It's getting very crunchy/creaky, so I guess the bearings are shot. I have a BB tool but not a headset press. Am I better off just getting a new BB which I should be able to fit easily enough, or just replace the bearings (tools required?). If the latter, what bearings do I need - is BB30 what I have, given how long ago it was?
Ta.
Anyone?
Personally I'd just replace the bearings. I'm sure youtube will tell you how. When all is said and done though, 8 yrs is pretty good going so if you factor in any tool costs, buying a new BB may make sense.
BB30 hadn't been around for 8 years
What is it likely to be then?
I'll ask a psychic
Actually don't fsa have their own standard?
Why not use Google
Mega exo at a guess
I tried google but it's no clearer!
I could always go out to the garage and look I suppose.....
Mega Exo, that rings a bell.
There were 2 different sizes of fsa external bb's too. If its eight years old it might just be the older one with a smaller internal diameter/crank spindle (as opposed to the 'normal' shimano/raceface sized one). Get thee in the garage and have a measure before you order anything.
Yes, that would no doubt be prudent. Can I replace with Shimano? They seem a lot cheaper.
