[Closed] Renthal or Burgtec carbon bar? Opinions?

[#9955400]

Am considering a bit of bling for the trail bike and am going to fit a carbon bar to replace the stock.

Narrowed to two. Renthal Carbon fatbar lite or the Burgtec Ride Wide (trail, not the downhill one).

760mm is the sweet spot for me given the local tree v knuckle interface in our local woods.

Anyone an opinion on either? Good or bad stories? Thanks

I've use both Renthal carbon and alloy. I managed to crack the end of the carbon with a grip lock-on that screwed straight into the bar (am used to running ODIs so not expecting it...) so had to chop 5mm off each end. Other than that I like them – I'm a bit fussy about bar shape and the Renthals are one of the best I've used.

I'd give Enve a thought - nice clean black look, and for my money a nicer shape and feel than Renthals for pretty much the same price

I had a burgtech 35mm bar and found it to stiff swapped out for another brand carbon one.

never tried the renthal but a few mates have them and like them.

I have a 31.8 Renthal Fatbar Carbon Lite on one bike and a 35mm Burgtec Ridewide Carbon Enduro bar on another.  I'm not especially sensitive to such things but I think the Burgtec is noticeably stiffer (good or bad depends on whether you want some give or not).  Cosmetically the Renthal has a more uniform finish and only you know which you prefer the look of

I was looking at the Burgtec with the 31.8 clamp. and i like a little bit of damping in the bar. The alloy things I have on the bike at the moment are ridiculously stiff.

I do quite like the joystick but am not handy with a hacksaw and am only after 760mm

I have some Renthals, they're fine- come in a nice range of heights, don't really do anything interesting- not especially stiff or soft, just sensible. Fairly ugly though. Haven't used the Burgtecs but as long as the shape suits you I don't think the Renthals really do anything that could upset a buyer, which is good.

My Enves were stiffity stiff. I didn't mind but I can definitely see how some folks would (likewise some people hate my super-bendy Crank Bros bars)

Buy the one you like the graphics on then persuade yourself it's special in some way, like everyone else does. That extra degree of backsweep, man.

I've had recent experience swapping between the Renthal Fatbar Carbon (not Lite) and the Burgtec 31.8 RW Carbon DH 800mm.

The Burgtec is one shape and that's that.  The Fatbar comes in a variety of rises.  While the Burgtec claims 20mm rise, it seems to come up taller at the grips after the combination of rise and sweep has been taken into account.  Compared to the 40mm rise Fatbar shape it is only a smidgen lower; probably matches the 30mm rise Renthal.

The Fatbar shape is 7 degrees backsweep.  The Burgtec is 9 degrees.  It might be I was rolling the Burgtec a bit forward to get my most comfortable position.

Appreciating that these aren't the exact bars you're looking at, I'd be happy with either but have settled on the Burgtec mostly for the graphics.

I've got renthal fatbar 35 on one bike and burgtec ridewide on my other, much prefer the renthals imo they are way comfier.

@bluearsedfly I went for the Burgtec Carbon trail which is 760mm with 10mm rise. For the most part it’s pretty good but the sweep did take a little playing with to get it comfortable. Initially I found it pressed into the outside of my hand a little.

is it good? Yes. And aesthetics are nice.

Does it warrant that kind of outlay on a bar? Absolutely not. I think I prefer my syntace vector.
