[Closed] Removing surface rust from old pedals

Morning All

While having a hoof out in the spares bin I dug out an old pair of XT 785 pedals which have a bit of surface rust/corrosion on the metal plates.

What would be the best approach to removing this and giving them a bit of a tidy up?

Had thought of going at them with some wire wool, would be effectively the same thing I guess.
