[#1572982]

I have managed to break off the end of the hose, complete with olive, in a completely unused XT Dual Control lever/shifter. I re-used the hose and olive from an older brake lever and in trying to remove it the hose has snapped. I have heard of this happening to others (although my LBS has never seen it before!) Has anyone had this happen to them and had any success drilling the olive out? I have only a hand drill and can't imagine this working without damaging the threads in the lever.

It is possible, but you obviously need to be careful not to damage the threads, did it to a Hayes brake last week, fair bit of hassle followed by the discovery of scored bore meaning it was scrap anyway.

Find a wood screw and wind it carefully into it.And try pulling it out with pliers.

Thanks chaps. A good tip with the screw too. I'll give that a go. Before I snapped the hose I had already tried pulling the lever while standing on the hose - God knows how much force will be needed to get the little blighter out.

cocktail sticks are often used to spear olives.

nicolaisam, I love you. I used a self-tapping screw. Took a few goes but result!
