I got my mate some of those Tibolts from SS, for his rotors. One sheared just as he got it finger tight. How do I get it out?

My brother's rotor bolt sheared so we got a hacksaw and cut across the top of the bolt to allow the use of a big flat blade screwdriver to get in there...worked fine.

Is there anything left above the surface? try the cutting a slot and using a screwdriver technique

If its flush or below the surface the drilling and an easy out is the answer - but don't put much pressure on the easyout or it will snap

I prefer this type of stud extractor as they don't shear as easily

You ain't the first to have issues with SS tibolts.

I was taking some rotors off a set of brand new wheels the other week and ended up with 4 rounded out bolts. I'm no longer a fan of Aluminium torx bolts...

Anyway, my learnings from my easy out experiment were that you need to think about the size of drillbit you're using carefully - too small and you won't a big enough easy out in to enough depth to bite. (I used the type above) Too big and the bolt can split and mash into your threads.

Also if it's sheared, it'll be tricky to get the drill bit to centre. (May need carefully flattened with a dremmel) In any event I'd seriously consider finding a pillar drill to use as it will keep everything lined up.

I managed to drill the last of the crop off centre, offline and too big, and I wasn't even contending with Ti.

Good luck

Hayes, Apparently.
Although I was glad they were aluminium when I was attacking them with the drill.

If it's just one that's sheared, remove the others and take off the rotor, then grip the stub with a tight pair of molegrips or even a vice(pliers will rarely hold it without slipping, and the bolts almost always shear at the head leaving a short stub protruding).

Had a similar problem with some of those silly shallow headed hex bolts that Hope used to use, so I used a dremmel with a cutting disc to cut a slot for a nice large screwdriver to fit. Still needed a pair of stilsons on the screwdriver to shift the bolt.

I just love my Shimano centre lock hubs and XTR rotors. Gone are the days of drilling out rotor bolts!
