Removing graphics from carbon bars

Has anyone done this with any success? I’ve got a set of Burgtec carbon ride wide bars for a build that would look better if it were a bit more stealthy.

I’d like to avoid sanding and painting if possible!

I think it will end being a hassle. But I understand why you'd want to. Handlebar graphics are too often an abomination.

Wet sand and clear coat.

I've done it on a few sets now.

You could also use the "bar shrink wrap" stuff on the affected area, but it's not as pretty a solution as a bare clear coat

Which clear coat have you used and how is it holding up? I have a feeling that anything I spray paint won’t stay looking good for long!

Sharpie or paint would be easier

Black electrical tape

2 min for a job that will be black as black can be from 1m and won't affect the integrity of your bars.

Sounds like you need to know how to spray paint to get this looking decent.

I've used nail polish remover on alloy bars and stems to remove decals - not sure if it'll be good for the carbon/epoxy though. Could test a drop on the end of the bar or sawn off end?

Luckily there are markings under the grips so I’ve tried a little wet sanding there and it has done a good job.

I think I can take it all off that way and then give the whole thing a polish to get the finish consistent again without going all the way through the existing finish.

I have a similar question so i thought id ask on here rather than starting a new thread

So ive a carbon rim i need to remove the decal from as its being built up into a hub  and i want it to match the front once its built up

Now i cant peel the decal off as it doesnt seem to be a normal decal, if i use a very fine tipped screwdriver to try and get an edge started it wont lift the decal but actually scratches the decal off,  what can i use to remove the decal as i dont fancy trying to scratch the whole decal off in case i scratch the rim!

It went really well! I wet sanded with 1200, 2000 and 5000 grit paper making sure to do the entire bar except the clamping area. After that I went over it with plain car paintwork polish on a felt drill pad thing.

I’d say it is an ever so slightly lighter shade of dark grey now I’m finished and much more subtle with just the little burgtec heart in the centre.
