I've been trying to remove the cassette from my comuter bike, Carrera virtuoso, and it just won't budge. I've got a chain whip and a removal tool but are they specific? It's a sram cassette, and most tools I've seen say Shimano compatible. So do I need a sram cassette tool, or is I just terribly stiff? My tool doesn't have the axle stem on it to stop it from coming out the socket so maybe that has something to do with it.
Any advice appreciated.
sometimes they can just get mega tight, try soaking it in wd40 or similar for an hour or so so it can work into the thread, then just some elbow grease I'm afraid
Just sounds like the tool is a bit pants. It should have a centre prong that goes where the skewer would be.
The wrench from the socket set should budge it easy, if not do you have an old piece of pipe or flat bars that you could use as an extension?
Cheers. That's what I was hoping. Changed the bottom bracket on it yesterday and that was so tight there were literally sparks coming off!!
I think I'll buy a tool with a centre prong, this came in part of a set. Any recommendations?
don't worry about the centre prong, use the qr to hold the tool in place. Don't do it very tight it is there to stop the tool coming out of the lockring.
Hi
No need for a new tool. Just use your QR skewer to hold the tool in place as you do the hard bit.
