As above really.
Maybe thinking of a new(ish) frame as my present Strive is a bit battered.
Thinking about either a Trek Remedy, I had a fuel EX8 few years ago and loved it
or, a Transition Covert, cos I love the look of them.
Anyone got any sound advice? Please don't say buy a Five, as I really don't like them
Cheers all

I have a 2012 remedy since new, great bike for me. Rides everything well, climbs ok descends better. Only negative for me at the moment is I feel its a little heavy. But its in pretty much standard trim with a dropper post and heavier wheels.

Never riden a covert but must admit , they look pretty sweet.
What prices have you seen for both frames

I have a 2013 Covert that I built up from frame only, I moved over from a Spesh Enduro and have to say the Covert is miles better, it feels more stable at speed, easier to get air, and built up with a 1x10 clutch narrow wide combo makes a perfect bike for just about anything!

Here's a pic of mine for inspiration:

I've owned neither but I love that if you email Transition, you get a slightly rambly email back from Lars with bike-love pouring out of it, which may or may not completely answer your question. They seem like a brand you can buy into, which doesn't make for a good buy in intself but is great if you also like the bikes.

The covert is no lightweight either, but no bike in this category is. I liked the covert as it's a small independent brand, and I'm a sucker for an independent brand. I've no idea if it's better or worse than the Trek, I'm sure it's swings and roundabouts and they're as good as each other and it boils down to subjective things like if you like the look of the thing.

Went from a Remedy to Covert moving most of the bits over.

Remedy is more stable at speed, sucked everything up and felt like it had endless travel. Great bike but demo'd a covert which is an awesome bike in a different way, makes the boring trails feel fun again, kinda let's you know what's going on etc etc - bought a frame the next day : )

It's a bike which eggs you on is the only way i can some it up..

I had a 09 Remedy, and it is hands down the best bike I've ever ridden! Pedals well, and desends like a dream.
(Hopefully when I finish building my Nicolai, that will be even better (but I have my reservations!)

Wow.
Nice to have some proper feedback for a change!
Ive seen remedy frames for around £600 second hand and covert frames about £1000 second hand.
Really like em both.
That covert photo is lovely!
So.....
What forks? New Pike or Fox floats??

Not ridden a Covert but I have a Remedy and it's a very capable bike. I run 1x10 with Lyriks and either the DRCV air shock or a VanRC coil, depending on terrain/Alps etc. It is plush, stiff and well balanced and not too slack to be a handful of tighter stuff. It's more nimble than, say, a Spicy.

I bought mine as an almost new frame for 800 I think. I've swapped the rear ABP axle for a maxle version. Still on a std seatpost but a dropper is on the horizon.

As far as suspension options go, I've got 140mm RS Revs on my Covert 29 and they're definitely the weakest link in the chain, so I'm saving hard for some Pikes, so make sure you do the frame some justice and get decent stiff forks. Also I'm very underwhelmed by the Fox CTD boost adjust Kashima rear shock so looking to replace that out too.

You can definitely get a Covert second hand for much less than £1000. £600 or less seems to be common, I got £1050 for mine including a set of Devilles.

I haven't ridden a Remedy so can't compare, but can echo what other Covert owners have said, it's a probably the easiest bike I've ridden to jump (I've had an Enduro SL, Sovereign, Covert, VPP Blur), it rockets out of berms and is reliable/easy to maintain and clean.

I may be selling a well used but perfectly servicable Covert soon in order to fund another Covert 😉

+1

There're some very ambitious sellers on Pinkbike though.

Ive got a Covert frame you can buy if you want.

Medium sized.

It works really well in the Alps and still works really well XC in the Chilterns. I run it 1x10 as my only bike and wouldnt change it.

Think freeborn still have a few Covert frames in stock at good prices, web site sometimes lags so check with them direct.
Thanks

I bought a Covert frame with a double barrel air CS about 2 months ago. I'm in Devon so weather hasn't been the best so only had a few rides but it feels good. Just fettling with the shock to firm it up but it's getting there. I came from a hardtail so was impressed by its climbing expecting it to be much worse than it was. I'm pleased though and can't wait to take it to the Mega this year! It does look awesome as well. If I knew how to put a picture up then I would!

I have seen the Amber ale covert in gravity bikes first hand and I have to day so loved the colour. Like a copper/ bronze thing and so much better than I thought it would look. I bought some intrepid apparel stuff from there, the owner is a top bloke. I would strongly recommend giving him a call if you decide ok the covert.
