I've got an unwanted bike plus various tyres etc. that I'd prefer not to throw. Didn't there use to be some scheme running whereby donated kit was shipped out to the 3rd world for use there.

Would like to help those less fortunate instead of adding to the landfill problem...

There are some UK based schemes (cycle recycle I think is one) Also helps the less fortunate up closer to home.

look local, there's bound to be a bike recycle scheme or local charity not too far away.

where are you?

They send them up north? ๐Ÿ˜‰

OPs idea sounds great to me, we already send other things but things like bikes and bike parts would be very useful I imagine.

the only problem can be that we are just sending our crap over there and when these tyres or whatever are past their usable life they will just end up dumped.

But one saving grace is people in Africa etc tend to get much longer use out of things and are then resourceful in recycling stuff as materials hold much more value over there.

Could be an initiative undertaken with bike shops or charity shops I guess with bike recycling organisations. Oh and inner tubes that people can't be bothered fixing and just fit a new one.

Where are you? Moores Bros (west London) do regular container shipments to Africa with bikes/ parts etc. Otherwise most larger towns have some kind of re-use project with training for scrotes that you could donate things to.
