I've got loads of old parts which are beyond usefulness but I don't want to just chuck them away.
Does anyone here recycle things like cassettes, chainrings, chains or anything else? I don't like the idea of just binning it, so what options are out there?
Sell them? Just a thought.
Put them in eBay. Claim it's just a little wear and tear, but still excellent ๐ฟ condition.
When the buyer complains just say you didn't realise there was any damage, and anyway what do they expect. From 5 year old second hand parts.
If its questioned the retort it "yes, excellent for 5 years old and knackered"
I think this standard practice.
P.S. I'm not bitter, oh no, no sires bob.
Give them to the Bristol Bike Project or something like that in your area.
beyond usefulness in what sense - obsolete or out of date sell them of give them away. There are plenty of bike recycling projects benefiting either local communities or shipping bikes out to developing countries, although if the stuff is a bit esoteric there'll be a limit to the applications for it. If they're worn out theres a limit to the things they could be re-used as, I'd just drop them off at the council recycling depot.
If you're up north give them to Ben at Cycle Recycle in Hebden. They turn our junk into working bikes for people.
