I've tried the Powerbar stuff which seems fine, but wondered if others had favourites for me to try.

(context - I often Ride 3 nights a week, and get back after 9pm and don't want to start cooking food, - I eat before riding - so a shake of some kind works better for me)

Sweetheart stout.

Guinness.

Or milk.

Of just eat something.

There is zero need for anything bespoke.

I use SIS Rego, strawberry flavour, 2 scoops in about 3/4 of a water bottle seems to work for me. It is getting pricey now though.

I like the For Goodness Shakes recovery drinks as if you squint and pretend, with a couple of ice cubes in, they could almost be a milk-shake.

I do concede they're something of an expensive indulgence though, I'm sure a glass of milk and a banana would probably do me just fine really.

Maybe it's a placebo effect but I find For Goodness Shakes works better for me than ordinary chocolate milk.

Relatively cheap now you can get it in the Tesco meal deal

2 x bananas, scoop of oat flour, skimmed milk, tiny bit of electrolyte powder, 30 seconds blast in the blended. Cheap, delicious, effective.

Thanks all - might try a tub of For Goodness Shakes.

Price wise probably works out better than umpteen bottles of Yazoo too

a) if you can calculate and eat the correct calories amount of protein laden real foods

b) Go and find the various multiple offers and have some myprotien/bulk powders protein mix on standby for convienience.

Watch out for sugars and fat content in some chocolate milks.

I'm a Goodness Shakes fan. I thought I'd try the tubs to reduce the amount of plastic involved, but actually the tubs are so solid that they actually use more plastic than an equivalent number of the bottles. Also the tubs are a faff, and you often end up with some undissolved powder at the bottom of the glass. I now buy the bottles in bulk direct from the Goodness Shakes website whenever they have one of their sales on.

Guiness Zero. Tried shakes, can't really get to the bottom of them before retching. Chocolate milk is also nice to drink, but the powder mixed don't work for me.

I do add soya protein to my porridge mix to replicate the now very expensive supplemented breakfast options! Banana, milk and cocoa powder might be worth a try.I could add the soya protein to that.

Used to have Torq recovery, but after a short spell off the bike with injury it gave me really bad cramps when I got back to using it...I've been wary of all of them since so just stick to water these days, maybe For Goodness Shakes if I hvae a big day following.

Honestly don't feel any the worse for it.

If I’ve just thought very hard about going out for a ride can I still have the chocolate milk? 🤞🤞

Can anyone recommend a non-dairy option? Milk, and whey bring me undone...

I used to use nesquik for recovery and it did the job, but when started doing quite high volumes of training I hit my lactose limit a bit. Not full-on intolerance but definitely 'too much milk for my guts'.

I switched to SiS Rego (which is soy based) and there was much rejoicing.

It's usually discounted somewhere, but failing that the code SISCP25 tends to get 25% off their website.

A good idea is to buy a few single sachets from a few places and see which one you like best.

My Protein do protein powder that doesn’t taste like feet (unlike most protein powders). Otherwise just some carbs, protein and water

I used to like Torq Recovery but that's when I was buying it at trade. Now I just buy the 1L Choc Milk cartons from the supermarket.

I use a protein works vegan "chocolate silk" flavour. It's acceptable and doesn't require you to have belly space for the 700+ml of milk you'd have to drink for the equivalent amount of protein to one portion of the above. I held off for years but tried it out last year and it made a huge difference to my progression with climbing
