K edge for me, I don't buy them very often so it's not that expensive

Yeah, if you're happy to have crap that goes rattly after a few rides and then breaks.

The rubber band one is rubbish for me. Bands have stretched. It's always coming loose on descents no matter how much I twist the bands.

Just bought a Lifeline stem faceplate one for £9, not fitted it yet tho. Out in front seemed too far away and they were more expensive.

@molgrips the one with the gopro mount? I had seen that and thought of sawing it off.

If you broke a top cap one do you really want to make it even more vulnerable with an out front?

Barfly 3.0 for me

I quite like the SRAM one. It's a short out front that can be reversed so garmin sits over stem.

I bought some dirt cheap knock offs of it from Ali Express for a couple of quid each or something but they don't hold the Garmin securely at all it's loose and rattly. Keep meaning to try some sort of shim but not got round to it.
The actual SRAM mount is just a few quid too much for me to want another though!

The standard Garmin mount with rubber bands was fine for me - lasted three years so hardly "keep coming loose" and that was with swapping between commuter and MTB as I only had the one mount. Now use an Oregon for off-road so a completely different mount.

I've an out-front on my road bike, can't remember if it's a k-edge or Garmin, with a 520 mounted there isn't much room to get between the bar and the unit to operate the start/stop button.

I run an superstar outinfront backwards so the Garmin's beside my stem and behind the bars on my MTB. Give it some protection.

As for those stem topcap mounts. My mates broke just putting his bike down they just seemed brittle and not up for the job.

The Garmin mounts do work just fine ime - but if you over stretched the band's then they won't work again.

Got a stem faceplate one with my new road bike . Really like that position. -garmin above and joystick below.

SRAM ones here too, much more durable than the Barfly and cheaper too.
I reverse it so it sits over the top cap as well.

I’ve aLao got the SRAM mount on my mtb and cross bike which sits the Garmin over the stem. They are OK but the plastic is a bit soft and after a year of use the Garmin starts to rattle and I actually lost my Garmin without realizing last year and it took two hours retracing my route and some extraordinary luck that I found it lying in the grass. Now got K edge on my roadie and it’s much better and when the replacement SRAM one starts to rattle again I’ll be getting another K edge.

The official Garmin out-front mount is very sturdy and not very long so is a little less vulnerable on an MTB

This is as near to the Trek Enduro Team mounts that you will get on the top tube and out of the way of most crashes

I have a k edge on my mtb and a cheap copy on my road bike.

The click when it attaches is so much better on the k edge and it's rock solid. On the copy it has a slight wobble (which is why it's on the road bike)

I ended up taking the free Garmin mount and whittled it down and fitted it into the cheap copy for a better fit.

Take the above advice and just but a k edge, they are far superior.

Alpkit do a stem mounted one (love mud) , a friend has it in his and its been good.

Barfly have a lifetime warranty. If it’s shoddy I’d expect them to sort you out

Would be less crashes if you didn't have to look at the top tube as you ride along though....it's never in the field of vision

Now you tell me! Two snapped in crashes, wonder if they'd have been covered by warranty?

I'm with Tracey, I went OTB first time out with my garmin & smashed it to bits. Now it sits on the top tube out the way of danger, using the basic handlebar mount/inner-tube/zip-tie arrangement. Looks like I'm due an upgrade

To be fair I was looking at it from a competing point of view which is where most of the replacements, on the top cap ones, we have had usually are from crashes on practice days. I would hate to think she was looking at the Garmin once on a stage.
On race days its usually back in the van

Having an unfashionably long stem (it must be at least 70mm) I just use the rubber band mount from the garmin on that. I seem to have quite a few spare bands, and I think there were two mounts in the box.

If I'm bikepacking, I put the garmin out front mount on (that came in the box) as that works better with all the straps etc and the front bag adds some crash protection.

+1 Sram mount, reversed fitting over the stem.

or buy a Syncros stem and use their topcap mount, which is even tidier.
