Second-hand Rock Lobster in a 15" if you can find one. Sold mine a few months back and there was loads of interest. Great frame.

I got the Merida Juliet 100 for my missus for xmas and bday combined, and very nice it is too. Rebranded RST forks, Tektro hydraulic discs (look like old deore copies), £400. The frame certainly seems very high quality for that price, and worthy of any upgrades thrown at it. Worth a punt?

to be honest, i'd get an upgrade. 5.4 is a very old version of the firmware, the latest being 11.3b.

or hold out for Lady II expected early next year

After some reaserach got gf a myka pro for 445 from Edingburgh Bicycle sale a while ago.

For her (4ft 10 - so 13" model) and other short arse beginners I'd say that the low cut top tube on 13" and 15" models was a winning feature.
