[#2130084]

Hi all

I'm after that ever-elusive do-it-all road bike.

I want to use it for riding to work a couple of days a week. I wouldn't mind disappearing on it for a couple of weeks in the spring/summer. I'll probably put a few miles in on the road during the winter. And I might even put some nobbly-ish tires on for a bit of 'cross.

Any recommendations (or threads that have done this already)?

Ta very much
jon

How about my old touring frame which I unsuccessfully tried to sell to pq the other day:

If its too tatty for you, I can get it sprayed for £30 locally. I have better pics which I can send by email.

Otherwise my recommendation for a new frame would be a PX Uncle John.

Cheers for the offer. I'll give it some thought. Have you got any more pics of that frame?

PX Uncle John is on the list of possibilities...

Are you after a drop bar or flat bar style frame?

If it's a flat bar job I've just picked up a Kona Smoke brand new on eBay for £190, then flogged all the stuff on if for £150. £40 for a Kona frame, P2 forks and v brakes and levers brand new is a canny deal.

Surly Cross Check, Planet X Kaffenback (best bike name ever).

I've an olds Ti version of the uncle john and it'd ace. Drop bars and cable discs - do it all indeed.

Try a Specialized Centrum. Three speed or put a cog and rear mech on.

Thanks for the replies. Got somethng sorted now thanks to anotherdeadhearo. Looks to be a nice bit of 725 steel.

Kaffenback was top of the list of new frames due to the great price (and great name!).
