[#6269515]

So I bought a 2nd hand 29er, it came with these rims on (mach1 250)
http://www.mach1.fr/composants/pages/jante.aspx?id=61

Alas they seem a bit on the weak side for me.

Can anyone recommend some good 29er rims, erring towards the strong side of things? On the 26er I like my mavic 521, it seems to be the right balance of strong/light/cheap, so a 29er equivalent would be the ideal. Either complete wheelsets or just rims. (If complete wheelsets I'm looking for sealed cartridge, or at least replaceable cups).

I have a pair of American Classic AM 29ers which are pretty bomb proof.

I've been looking into the same sort of wheels - think I've settled on Spank Oozy wheels. Seem like a good combination of strong, light(ish) and cheap.

Check out my recent for sale ad for a decent strong 29er front wheel (if you need QR)

Very happy with my Spank Oozy 29s, highly recommended. Been to Wales a couple of times and BPW

If you've got the money, light bikes carbon rims are the way to go.
Light, strong and stupidly stiff. Just not very cheap.

New Hope Tech Enduros feel very strong. They run tubeless better than Stan's and have the deep wall profile of Mavics.

Are those spank oozy's sealed cartridge? Also if it's sold as 9/10 speed does that mean I can't upgrade to 11 without a wheel rebuild? does 11 speed need a different freehub?

I owned a stans ztr flow in 26er size and even then I kept knocking it out of true (while my mavic 521 was faultless). I'm going to take that as a hint that flows aren't for me - unless you guys think that flow/mavic521 are the same strength and that was just a matter of luck?

I'm considerably heavier than sandwich eater and batter my flows through everything, natural / BPW all on a hardtail. They are incredible, I would suggest you had a badly built/poorly tensioned flow on your 26er..
