I live in North Bristol and tend to ride still woods, ashton court, elmtree, roeberrow and cwm carn. Im after some new trails, ideally nice long runs, somthing to get some excitement back into the rides. Ideally within an hour drive, im not after pure xc rides, something with a mix of stuff, up hill, downhill, rocky, tech.... well you get the idea!! what do you recommend within an hour or so drive.

up hill, downhill, rocky, tech

Aren't they XC rides?

There's meant to be tonnes of excellent natural stuff around Cwm Carn, but I don't know it!

yup plenty to ride (dh/jumps/freeride stuff) around Wooton Under Edge - quite a surprising area!

Check out the old quarry/gravel pit just here - there are loads of tracks running off this hill

In fact quite a bit of the stw route guide to the Cotswolds is good riding (plus a bit of old skool fields / bridleways)

Another vote for Wotton Under Edge/North Nibley/Kingswood.

Wotton Under Edge Ride (Evans Ride It)
There's over 1200m of ascent, over 25 miles, and no flat bits.

Ooo Ooo Ooo, there's one near me, but the name aludes me.

Quite a bit of up and down, 5 min flowy singletracks, Techy if you want, loose rocky in places, bit of all sorts really.

Open 24/7 and 365 days a year any weather..

the comment on xc, I just meant I dont like flat long slogs, I like techy, rocky flat is fine if its fast and narrow trails, im just not into the open space no brain slogging.... I like to be thinking and adapting to the terrain all the time..... if you get my drift!

Someone form Bristol said on here that the Mendips only has 40 minutes of good riding, so I'd not bother looking there.

I guess the Mendips does only have 40 minutes of good riding, if you are very quick on your bike

Quantocks aren't much over an hour from you - better than the Mendips.

Exmoor is great if you don't OD on jam and cream.

Tons of stuff running between Newport and Cardiff, easily accessed from any M4 junctions between Newport/Cwmcarn and Cardiff/Coryton interchange. Could show you some if you want to tag along with our group one Sunday.

From Cwmcarn you could go over the sirhowy valley back towards Cardiff, Rhydry, ridgeway loads of stuff around there, I would've thought with a map you could even find a lot of it quite easily.

It would have to be an MX bike, and a quick one at that.
