[#1377321]

Have finally lost patience with constantly sticking avid elixir piston - caliper has been striped and rebuilt at lbs a few times but still eats through pads and jams up...

So time for something shiny and new, have heard that the magura marta's are pretty good (but a bit spendy...?)

Any suggestions?

+1 on Shimano, I have the new Deore and XT and there is not much difference in performance if you want something a bit cheaper.

Hope every time for me. Its the availability of spares in the unlikely event of needing them that swings it.

Shimano are fantastic value for money tho - no doubt

Shimano XT, with the one piece caliper, rear pad access, banjoed caliper.

Winners.

of for 100% maintenence freeness, Hayes 9s.

I have the new Deore 595's, SLX and XT and am very happy with them all. The Deore ones have no servo wave so are not as 'snappy' as the other two but still seem very good (on brand new ridden once bike so early days yet) but they all seem powerful enough and well made. Fairly easy to bleed as well once you've got the hang of them.

really like elixirs - one finger braking, lots of modulation, look quite good.

Shimano excellent too though. I wish Hope performed as good as they looked, but then I've not used em for a couple of years, maybe they're better now?

Avid XX?

Basically an even lighter, more powerful Elixir. Not had any piston issues with mine!
