Took the plunge and ordered my first road bike so I'm looking for a decent pair of Lycra shorts. I've always used baggies when biking and realise the fashion police won't take kindly to riding a road bike with baggies. Any info appreciated.

How much do you want to spend? Assos is good not cheap, Castelli is good and a bit cheaper. At this time of year you might be able to get some end of season deals.

would recommend getting bibs rather than shorts.

I like Santini stuff for "mid price" kit. I find cheap bibs like Altura and DHB aren't really very nice to wear.

Assos still the best imo, castelli, gore very good too and santini good vfm.cheap lycra is a false economy imo as it dooesn't tend to last and isn't as comfortable.

DHB Aeron pro bibs. Cheaper a more comfortable than my Castelli's. Gets great reviews so its not just my opinion.

OP, don't make the mistake of getting cheap shorts to wear on a road bike, you'll regret it most likely.

I totally agree with buying cheap being a false economy. Have a pair of Gore baggies that have lasted for years with regular use. Endura on the other hand haven't lasted and it's always been due to poor stitching.

Giordana, Castelli, Mavic, Scott all do good shorts; but the key is in the fit. They have to be skin tight, so put your embarrassment away and go try some on.

I really like the specialised stuff to be honest, middle of the road, but fitted me better than all Endura/Altura and more expensive makes

dhb from wiggle. Aeron race or pro are good. I have some from 2010 (whatever they were called then) and they are still in good shape having done several thousand miles.
