Hey,

After doing a few searches on here, couldnt find a thread that discussed the pro's and cons of all the different brands/compounds out there. Only thing I could find was a random debate about kevlar pads that turned in to the all too familiar slanging match...

So, any recommendations for some pads for my xt brakes for all round uk conditions (plus maybe something hard wearing for the kielder 100)? There's a lot on ebay but no idea which offer best vfm?

cheers

Matt

If money is no object then Goodridge sintered, if it is then try said brand's Kevlar pads. I've not had an issue with either.

I can get plenty of sets from Disco brakes. Used them in Morzine and found them to be very good.

I haven't found anything better than Shimano pads

After using EBC, Goodridge and Superstar pads in various Shimano brakes over the last few years, I'd personally stick to the Shimano. EBC are good but don't last, Goodridge OK.... and the superstar last the least amount of time and destroy your rotors. Cheap crap. Shimano are th emost expensive but after burning through two sets of superstar in five days in the Alps, I stuck the (9 month old) OEM Shimano stintered back in and they happily did another 7 days in the Alps. And they still have life left in them.

I bought some Sintered Clarks not so long ago cheaper than the XTRs they replaced and I would say as good if not better in terms of bite and wear... CRC did have them on special, Should fit your XTs...

Failing that replacing your Shimano pads like for like with another set of Shimanos you can't go far wrong...

I've never had any problems with Fibrax sintered of e-bay (vwthemark) reasonable prices and for me at least quite long lasting, out once a week in the Peak minimum and in all conditions.

Coming to think of it I havent had to replace a set of pads from the ones that came with the brakes for ages so shimano it is although looking around I cant seem to find many places that sell them at a sensible price, any ideas?

goodridge or shimano sintered last forever, had a pair of shimano ones for way over a year now and still going, goodridge for about 6months and still good too.

I've been using Superstar organic recently but they keep glazing over after a very short period of time; I've got some Goodridge organics to go in next when the current set die (it won't be long...) so I'll see whether they're any better...

They seem quite reasonable.

To be honest, I don't think I have ever actually worn out a set of shimano pads, and that includes trips to whistler, riding in all conditions etc. I've replaced them, but that's more for peace of mind before I've gone on holiday than any drop off in performance = Shimano all the way.

I think cheap pads are a false saving. I have hope brakes and use hope sintered. New pins, clips and springs in the pack for £15 and last for ages. And I have no issues with them Sure I could get 3 pairs of cheap pads for the some money - but without the pins springs and clips. I take several thousand miles to wear out a set.

Nuke proof pads are worth a look.

i got the 'enduro' ones for my slx brakes, they're a bit more bitey than xt metal (you may or may not like this), but much quieter - i find that shimano metal pads make a scraping noise, it's not loud, but it's not nice.
