[#5255021]

Hi all,
I'm staying at center parks at Whinfell (near Penrith)in July.
I'll be able to get out for one day on the bike so could you recommend a 4-5 hour ride (I'm reasonably fit)that is close(ish) to Penrith.

I've got V Lake district essential trails book, so if there's something in that all the better.
I have view ranger so if you have any map files all the better.

Also is Whinlatter worth a go?

Cheers

I had my first ride at Whinlatter the other week, it was ace but wouldn't go there looking for a 4-5 hour ride. It was a definite short blast, about 15k i think, 1/1.5 hrs if getting on with it.

Helvellyn's not far from Penrith?

The Bridleways from Askham Village towards Howtown and then the Ullswater Singletrack are the best routes nearby, return over Boredale hause back to Sandwick, or you could carry from Hayeswater onto Highstreet and join the brilliant descent back to Askham village...enjoy

Or if your on for something completely "different" your welcome to join us on a Keswick Tuesday evening ride starting from the Peddlar cafe (main car park in keswick) at 1830 hrs.

We usually have a short counselling session afterwards in the Bank tavern pub... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Helvellyn route looks amazing.

That particular one doesn't take some of the best bits Helvellyn can offer.

EDIT: After looking some of the other routes on that site, it would seem the rider (or whoever submitted them) has a penchant for hike-a-biking up excellent descents?!? ๐Ÿ˜•
