Hello, just day dreaming...

I currently have:
a 140mm FS
cotic simple SS
Cannondale six road bike
a beat up old kona dew

What full bike for £500-800 would you add to this?

I like the Genisis fortitute SS but it looks like its not small enough for me 🙁 need up to 580mm TT
Would have like the IO SS they did but that isnt made anymore
Should i go cyclocross and look at a Day 01 ?

ideas on a postcard 🙂

Aren't you putting just a bit too much thought into being impulsive...? 😆

does it still count as an impulse if this much thought went into it?

Trek Soho.

Belt drive, internal gears and brakes, super comfy. Oh, and an insulated [s]beer[/s] coffee bottle. Pub-bike-deluxe.

How about adding a really good set of wheels to the full suss (assuming the ones you have now are mediocre at best)?

Really good wheels, i.e. light, strong and stiff, make such a difference to the ride and you can swap them between the FS and hardtail for a double upgrade whammy.

You could easily go Mavic Crossmax ST/DT Swiss Tricon/Easton Havens on that budget and still have money for UST tyres.

... And use it... Sit down... And ponder... No rush

Mavic Crossmax ST/DT Swiss Tricon/Easton Havens

are any of those good wheels though - they just sound expensive.....

Well they are all light and (relatively) strong, probably more than strong enough for what the typical 140mm FS bike will be asked to do so in that sense, yes they are very good.

They aren't without their Achilles heels though.

Very nice. Not much point in changing those wheels then (although it's an inconvenient truth that a set of Crossmax STs may be a few hundred grams bit lighter than your current wheels if you're running Flow rims.)

Then wheels aren't going to do it for you Titusrider! I guess you've got a slightly heavier rear rim than front? That's a smart thing to do.

OK then second choice impulse purchase would be a Bos Devile fork for the FS bike; you can get it in 140mm guise.

hehe the full sus already has the choice between 2009 fox float 32 140mm QR15 RLC and 2008 36 van R (with a different front wheel)
and the rear shock has been PUSH'ed

I think we need to get away from upgrading it, its pimped 🙂

For me it would be upgrades to the bikes you have, your money would be much better spent on components or riding trips/holidays.

Hmmm, you might be right! The only thing I would say is that the combination of Bos Devil fork and Vipr rear damper is really very good indeed. I think it would be a clear performance improvement over either the 32mm or 36mm fork, but maybe not enough to warrant not having another bike in the garage.

I thought about a BMX once and a mate who grew up riding them and now also rides mountain bikes suggested that at my age, apart from the incongruity of a 40 year old bloke learning to ride BMX, 20" wheels would be so alien to me that I'd likely kill myself trying to learn 😀
