been looking at the park ones but they are quite expensive to ask for as a xmas pressie - anyone use another make that is cheaper & just as good (or knows when I can get a park one for less that £80...)

Better and cheaper than Park, go to [url= http://www.wheelpro.co.uk/wheelbuilding/book.php ]Wheelpro[/url] and build your own.
For occasional building and day-to-day truing, I found the [url= http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=T3175 ]Tacx[/url] stand to be perfectly adequate. Easy to get wheels within 0.5mm of true in every direction, a bit flexy to get much tighter than that.
