[#4278689]

Hi,

Got the singlespeed bug, now looking for frame for ss bike.

Currently, I have ben riding cube ltd frame (2006), simply not changing gears 🙂 I want to keep this bike as geared.
This one has appx 70 deg ht, 72 st, longish htt of 590-600mm and quite low bb. This is in size 18", which is ok for fast xc but to much for 'every day' fun.

So, I'm looking for something shorter and more relaxed in terms of HT, ST of 72-73 is fine. My other bike is spicy in S, which fits great (I'm 5'8").

I like the idea of light fast xc/trail frame , something like c456 or even ibis tranny (too much money). But I've missed cheap c456. Second hand is also ok, and will probably the route to take. Frame should cope with small drops (1-2 feet max) and take appx 120 fork (do not want to go higher than 140). Guess that rulles out whippet.

What is the difference (in ss context) if using 6lbs steel frame or 3lbs carbon one, if all builds are the same? I know that it rides differently (steel vs c), but other than tht its mostly weight, right?

Not too fussy about the weight though, my cube weights 13kg and its a speed machine compared to spicy with dh tires 🙂 I use for most of riding now.

I assume its better tovuse horiz. dropouts and chain thugs insted of faffing with ebb or tensioner?

Thx for your help,
Igor

Cotic simple or singular hummingbird..
I like EBB's so would prefer the latter.
You could try a 29er, which if you liked the salsa el mariachi is a lovely frame for the money.

140 mm fork on a ss pah! Rigid or 100mm max.
Something twangy like avss inbred which,ll be more than good enough.
Otherwise trannys can be had for £900 nrw which imo is still too much for a weak link frame design like that.
Whippet would bevmy choice if carbon is key for you..?

One of these

Or one of these

http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FROOSSLTD/on_one_inbred_26er_single_speed_ltd_edition

I have the former as my ss and it's great. I use two chaintugs and a shimano QR. never had slippage with it and means you can easily if need be get the rear wheel out mid ride with only a multi-tool spanner, and not having to lug around a couple of 15mm spanners for nuts on a threaded axle.

+1 for Kinesis Decade, I've just built one up (geared) and it's a great handling bike
