Anything else? 575 is too flexy on the rear for a heavy lad.

Whats wrong with the blur 4x? Only ask as have been looking for my ideal frame and come to the conclusion that the 4x is it.

Podge's Trance. Very light given the bike. "Borrow" it whilst he's on his travels.

A freind has an old rocky mountain slayer, looks like the more modern element. 140mm travel but the wheelbase seems quite short, making it very nimble. He gave me the stripped down frame to take to work and replace the bearings and it felt incredibily light. Theres a few frames on ebay I notice. Might be worth a try if your after something diffrent. not like you cant sell it on with minimal expence if you decide against it.

Maybe a 07/08 5 but definitely not the slacker/newer 5.

A must is a lower BB though- the Prophet has a high one.

Why am I being drawn to the old-shape Heckler again? 🙂

Response: hi sorry declined offer. heckler frames have life time guarenntee and cost about £2000 new and the shock alone is £500

I dunno why you're drawn to an older heckler, when you discount a prophet for a high BB? (it's not really, especially if you run it with the shorter shock at 120mm as a prophet SL. *too* low if it's in the FR hole, and that speaking as someone used to a very low socom)

Brilliant- mothballing it for a couple of months to strip all bearings, clean and send the shock off for warranty (or service). Its wallowing a fair bit and Im thinking is this the RP23 prob?

blur 4x is a great bike, i had one as my do everything bike for a year or so. at 6 foot my large was just the right shape and size for throwing it around but not so suited to long days out as its quite short in the top tube. pedals like a cr@p in the granny ring so just ran it 1x9, tried to get it light and strong and got it down to 29lbs with xtr, juicy ultimates, mag/ti pedals, fox f120 qr15's etc but the brakes boiled, cranks and pedals snapped and the forks flexed so went back to a 32/33lb build with pikes and stronger kit. i loved it, maintenance wasnt as bad as some had said it would be but i did need new bearings every 7-8 months. not a light frame for the travel but id compare it to bikes around 140-150mm in terms of purpose and capability. however, now that mid-travel bikes are getting a bit slacker i dont think id get one again as there are bikes out there that do the job better imo. still a classic though!

the new 5 isnt any slacker than your blur hora, theres good deals on cube stereo, commencal meta 5 and lapierre zesty too if you look around.

Its genuinely stiff as a b*stard. Stiffer than my Heckler was.

Oooo hang on commencal meta 5. Slowrider we'll need to organise a rocky pootle soon and if you could bring your meta with you and I could have a short spin on a section?

Erm you'd have to do with a Dialled Alpine 😉

The Prophet has a fairly low BB when the shock is set to its slacker setting. Its certainly the bike I've had the most pedal strikes with when riding.

As per MRB & IA (yep the shorter shock setup is an option too), you run it in the slack position, the XC position is redundant IMO, and the BB is low. But whatever...

Hey Hora. I sold my 4x frame to get something cheaper / simpler. I got an Orange Patriot 66 frame second hand for about £200, and have put an RP23 shock on it. Its ace, feels more XC than the Blur did but has more travel, and I can lower the BB and slacken it off by moving the shock slider for when I go to the Alps. Plus its burlier than a 5. I'm v pleased with it, and feel happier now I'm back on a single pivot. I've come to the conclusion that the suspension on the Blur 4x was too good for me! 🙂

Its not as good over the jumps though, the Blur ruled that like no other bike I've owned....
