need a bigger comfy rucksack for family rides, to carry the usual tools plus all the crap that goes with two young kids. And yes I've thought about a trailer.

I have an Osprey Zealot which I find more than big enough and very comfy

Depending on how big you want to go, the Deuter Trans Alp is great. 30L of storage space, comfy and well made. (It can be used with a bladder, but doesn't come with one.) I'm very happy with mine.
