1. Pick an area you like (not the Central Fells - too rocky)
2. Have a look for wee black dotted lines on the map (not ROW FP or BW) that might join up or take you near some of your faves. Ridge lines are a good source.
3. Have a look on Google Earth / Bing Maps to see if there's anything 'on the ground'
4. Create a route with a bit of old and new

Did Nan Bield recently, which was ace - started by climbing Gatescarth Pass. That may be a bit 'obvious' to you, I dunno. We had a dip in Small Water halfway round too.

A short one: Braithwaite, Grassmoor, back to Coledale House, Sand Hill, (Whiteside and back if you fancy - some surprisingly ridable sections. Some heart in mouth and lot not very ridable by me), Grizedale Pike, and the well known blast back to Braithwaite.

South lakes type 1 fun: on the BW from Coniston, Torver, Stephenson's ground, dunnderdale and then over to boot is sheer joy... Type 1 Fun.

You could figure a route around that?

Grasmoor is an interesting one, after initially thinking Lad howes would be a goer, walked it and thought nah sections at the top were just not rideable way beyond my paygrade, have been thinking of just riding the easy ridge line down to coldale hause for the tick, just need to get round to it.

Stephenson ground the BW north really does look like classic Lakes techy flow, somebody posted a video of this last week, great suggestions.

Lad Howes looks a bit steep... The route I posted - a there and back from coledale hause - involves a short push up the steep bit, but otherwise is 100% quick stony singletrack on grassmoor itself plus usual wide lakes path. Rides nicely on the way down. Descent from Grizedale Pike is a full on classic.

Did this ride the day after mega rain. Biggest challenge was crossing Coledale beck, walkers were turning back. Managed to chuck my bike mainly over up towards the crag, giving me an incentive to follow...
