[#537543]

Apparently the one I have just broke is deeply unfashionable.

Just for general riding duties (and a quick trip to the Alps) so not a full face beast.

Out of interest, what makes a helmet fashionable/trendy/cool nowadays?

This one is sick to the power of RAD:

I can't think of anything witty to type so I'll just put a boring answer - TRY SOME ON, you really want one that is going to fit, not give you a migraine, and not dodge out of the way of the ground.

From the photos on PP's Alps thread it looks like you are a regular Geoff Wode in the head department, so I'd check out something specifically for the larger gentleman like a XL Zen, an E2, or a Met Testogrosso, edit, sorry, Testagrossa.

Ahh, big helmets. My speciality....

I can't recommend a Giro Xen higly enough. I've crased in one and it worked, they fit my big noggin very well, very comfy, very secure, but a bit pricey.

I've also got a Met Predatore which is designed to fit 61-65cm bonces. It's not quite as comfy as the Xen, but looks a bit more 'XC' then 'AM' and is better vented. A bit cheaper too.

😀

That TL helmet is for "special" people, isn't it?

2nd a Giro Xen. Bought one last weekend - much more comfy than my old Animas (and more trendy I'm sure 😉 ).

Fits really well (even my huge bonce!) and didn't hurt when I went over the bars and landed on my head/shoulder on the Dyfi last weekend!

Helmets aren't fashionable. Cycling-related fashion headwear is those little cloth caps that roadies wear in the pub, or a baseball cap which flies off as you execute a particularly complicated trick.

Relatively speaking though, things seem to be moving towards smooth and roundy, rather than something resembling the Sydney Opera House with straps hanging off the bottom.

If you don't want to spend big on a Xen, check out the Bell Slant.

Was the best fitting lid (for me) in the shop and on offer for £30 when I went helmet shopping with some Halfords vouchers.

DezB's one is levitating! That must offer extra protection.

Why does that skull not have any teeth, or jawbone for that matter? That's not very reassuring is it?

I always found Giro to be pretty good.

My favourite for comfort is Bell. Nothing has ever been as good for me.

TLD stuff is nice but it is very expensive. I have one for the old scrambler but I got it at a knock down price, otherwise I would never have got it.

I've had a xen for about 5 years, and found it pretty comfy. As its getting a bit old I've started thinking about a replacement - was going to replace it with another xen, then tried on my mates hex and it actually fitted better, even though its the same size. So what am I saying? Try a few on.

Oh, and I aint the fashion police, but the one you were wearing in the other post was truly shocking.

Another vote for the Xen here too, had 3 so far and all have done their job well.
Having said that, I've just bought a Fox Flux, similar fit to a Giro Xen, as comfy, but actually vents better! On offer at Stif at the moment for a bagaintastic £45 too.

rocket - don't worry, it was the one you saw posted the other day that sacrificed itself today.
