Trying to breath life into the old hardtail. Where the best 27.2 dropper out there and what's the longest drop available for that diameter?

Many thanks

There's an article on the main site: https://singletrackworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/27-2-dropper-post-8-upgrades-for-your-mountain-bike/

Last year, so might be some new ones but I wouldn't get your hopes up for long drops

Very limited 27.2mm choice
I had a Forca for a while, bought it ages ago. It was terrible, loads of play but only side to side, the up and down bit never worked properly, the seals were terrible and the cable adjustment a right PITA. Cheap though.
Got rid eventually and got a Thomson, better in every single way and fantastic to use, highly recomended. However, £250 for a second-hand seatpost...

Brand X do a 105 mm dropper in 27.2. I have one, plus a couple of 30.8 Brand X droppers with longer drop. They're cheap and function perfectly well. I used a 100 mm Gravity Dropper before that. If you're used to a 100 mm drop, it's fine for most riding, but you'll find yourself smashing your nuts on the back of the saddle if you're used to a longer travel post. Gravity Droppers suck in comparison to modern posts, don't go down that route. If you want more than 100 mm drop, it'll be more expensive than Brand X.

I have the 27.2mm Brand X on my rigid. Very happy with it generally. The lever needs work though.

I've had a KS 27.2 on my hardtail for years with no issues
