was looking at a genesis day one (£550) but would ideally like to get something cheaper

this time of year you should be able to find some deals. dunno how much they are now, but my langster wasn't expensive ( about 60 quid off list at this time of year ), and i still really like it 3 years on. pearson have had good deals on the langster and the bowery in the past.

Revolution Courier S1NGLE

£229. An OK bike. Been riding mine for a year now in fixie mode. Had to replace the bottom bracket but that's it.

Diamondback Mojito for £200 and then slap some new thinner tyres on and increase the chainring size? 29er (700c) wheels so should be good for commuting. Cheap and cheerful.

Decathalon are doing one for £60 or something silly. Just buy a fleet and throw them away if they get dirty.
