What it says in the title really, I'm thinking about building my first ever wheelset so I'd be looking for a truing stand and also a tension gauge probably? Has anyone had any luck with any of the super budget options you can find on Amazon and eBay?
I know I could use the frame/forks and a zip tie but I feel like having a stand of some description would make life easier.
I was going to say the Minoura FT-1 is very good and folds away very small but it's a bit pricey. I managed to get one for about £50 so you might also be lucky and find one going cheaply
I've got the one thats the same as the lifeline one on Wiggle, but it's got a different name on it and it wasn't that expensive. I've built 5 or 6 wheels on it and it seems to work fine.

I've got one like this - https://www.irvinecycles.co.uk/lifeline-home-mechanic-wheel-truing-stand.html I'd say increase your budget if you can. It does the job - truing is ok in it, but is only designed for 9mm QR non boost and though you can adapt it with a axle adapter it's not ideal for building from scratch.
I also bought a budget tension gauge off ebay and well, again, you can get by, but it was stiff out of the box, so I'm not sure how accurate it is!
Blimey, just found the order email for my stand - was off ebay, brand: Lixada - £25 and it is exactly the same as the lifeline one I linked to.
I was going to recommend the Parktool TS-8 as they used to be £80 but just seen what they're going for now!
